We had a great time at the South Florida BrewFest at the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University. Their goal is to help continue to influence the growing education on craft beer and it’s Florida breweries, brewpubs, and homebrew organizations. The great turnout by the local breweries made this an awesome #DrinkLocal event!

The South Florida BrewFest is a student project, led by hospitality management students at the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University. Proceeds from the South Florida Brewfest support the FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and its Brewing Science program.

On hand were MIA Brewing Co, Brew Bus Brewing, Funky Buddha Brewery, Big Daddy Brews, Biscayne Bay Brewing, Wynwood Brewing, Due South Brewing, Miami Brewing Co, Native Brewing, Cigar City Brewing, Barley Works, Hialeah Brewing , Saltwater Brewery, Legacy Brewing, Mack House, Florida Beer Co, 3 Sons Brewing, Wild Oak American Ales, 4th Age Brewing, Brew FIU, newcomer Wasassa Brewing, and Orlando's Homesick Brewing.

These guys were serving up some great beers and there was something for everyone. Funky Buddha had a keg of No Crusts, 4th Age had their Flan Sweet Sout, Wynwood  was pouring their Cup of Jose. Wild Oak had two that really stood out with their Baby Hands and their sour, Farmacology. 3 Sons was in the holiday spirit with their Pumpkin Spiced Lattee.

In addition to the beer tasting, there were three interesting educational seminars:

  • Beer Tasting 101 by Dr. Barry Gump, Professor, FIU Brewing Science Program
  • Beer and Food Paring by Luis Brignoni, Founder of Wynwood Brewing Company and Juan Carlos Lopategui, Corporate Chef at Casavana
  • Intro to Beer Brewing by Dustin Jeffers, Co-Founder/ Head Brewer, Saltwater Brewery
