Fat Point Brewing’s Oatmeal Stout and Ryeght Angle IPA have been awarded medals at the 2019 U.S. Open Beer Championship – the only competition to include beers from professional breweries and award-winning home breweries.
The Oatmeal Stout won silver in the Oatmeal Stout category, and Fat Point’s Ryeght Angle IPA was awarded a bronze in the Rye Beer category.
“While Fat Point brews are local favorites in Punta Gorda, it’s rewarding to see that our beers continue to stand out nationally,” said Fat Point’s Head Brewer Jessy Abbate. “We focus on creating a meaningful experience, with excellence and attention to detail. Winning a national honor is an added bonus and really puts us on the map.”
Fat Point’s sister brewery, Big Storm Brewing Company, also won a bronze medal for its Tropic Pressure Florida Ale in the Herb and Spice Beer category.
This year more than 7,000 beers were entered in the U.S. Open Beer Championship, with judges from Canada, England and the United States.
Fat Point’s Oatmeal Stout is a 7.3% ABV full bodied beer with a roasty aroma, while its 7.2% ABV Ryeght Angle is brewed with rye for a spicy, hoppy IPA that’s approachable and easy to drink. The 4.4% ABV Tropic Pressure Florida Ale is steeped with hibiscus flowers for the perfect amount of natural sweetness, with an aroma of blossoming flowers, honeysuckle, and freshly baked island bread.
