What started out as a sweet and simple idea to deliver warm, home-made cookies until 2 AM to South Florida night owlers, has turned into the Nation’s largest cookie shop. Since 2012, Night Owl Cookies has catered to long lines of people eager to buy freshly baked cookies, with 30% of its orders coming from online delivery services.
As the first-generation American at the age of 20, Andrew Gonzalez went from being a struggling college student to a “Cookiepreneur”, who had achieved national attention and been featured in Forbes, The Food Network, and NBC News. His first location was especially convenient to Florida International University students pulling an all-nighter, which is why Gonzalez decided to open a larger store nearby at 10534 SW 8 Street. Night Owl Cookies can also be found at four South Florida locations, but plans are underway to open three new storefronts soon.
With 14 flavors currently available, Night Owl Cookies has been known for giving a Latin accent to the all-American favorite. For instance, the “Ave Maria” cookie has Guava cookie dough mixed with crunchy Maria Cookies and white chocolate chips. It’s then topped with Maria Cookie crumbles, Guava pieces and finished with a Cream Cheese Frosting drizzle. Another favorite is the “Plantain Papi Cookie”, which is a plantain infused cookie dough mixed with Nutella and a whole slice of Maduro, topped with a Nutella drizzle. They also offer “Dunk-a-Hoots”, which is the Night Owl’s take on Dunkaroos; Andrew’s childhood favorite snack. The new store will also have soft serve ice cream that can be mixed per order with any cookie flavor.
Andrew Gonzalez has received numerous accolades including Forbes 30 under 30, Forbes Nations Top Young Chef, and Best Bite on the Beach at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. In addition to participating in the festival, Night Owl Cookies has been a part of the Forbes Summit and looks forward to participating in the 2018 New York City Wine & Food Festival.
