Brew House Rock continues with “IPAs: Myths, Legends, and Cold Bitter Truths” on Monday, May 2nd from 8PM to 9PM in the Social Hall

A class with no homework, and the only objective is to learn more about beer. No, this isn’t a dream from the past, it’s a real course and it happens every month in Wynwood. Concrete Beach’s Social Hall Manager and “certified beer geek” Jesse Morris hosts a monthly educational series at the brewery, aptly named Brew House Rock.

Morris, who recently became the first craft brewery worker on Wynwood’s Brewers’ Row to become a Certified Cicerone, gets a chance to share his passion and beer expertise in this monthly series. Brew House Rock is designed for anyone who is interested in developing a deeper knowledge and appreciation of craft beer. Each class has a different theme, and includes beer tastings with special ingredients to highlight subtle flavor notes, such as caramel, toffee and fruit.

May’s theme is IPAs. Morris will discuss the history and evolution of this popular style. There will also be a special tasting of an IPA that was created during April’s Brew House Rock on home brewing.

“The amazing thing about beer is that the more you learn, the more you realize how much more there is to know,” said Morris. “Beer is one of mankind’s oldest beverages and literally helped shape history as we know it. Brew House Rock has become a great outlet to delve into some of the lesser known aspects of beer.”

Certified Cicerone is the second level of a beer service certification program, which is similar to that of the wine industry’s sommelier certification program. There are currently four levels to the Cicerone Certification Program, which is named after the Roman statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero. They are: Certified Beer Server, Certified Cicerone, Advanced Cicerone and Master Cicerone. Each includes a written test and blind tasting. Every employee in the Social Hall has achieved at least Certified Beer Server status.

The $5 ticket includes the hour-long class and tastings.
